As usual, web-only content was also available online (in addition to the print column). I've included the raw, web-only copy below.

This was originally published November 15, 2006, in CiN Weekly Magazine (p. 15), and online at CINWeekly.com and Cincinnati.com.

For the Web Junkies

Look, on the web! It's words. It's text. It's - free bonus content!

For the game they've taken a bit of the old and new, using at least some version of all but one of the original Justice League of America's founding members (see the character lists below).

It's not uncommon for comic book companies to mess with their own characters as is obvious when comparing Batman's origin between the comics and films, the various incarnations of the Justice League across media and the inclusion of The Wonder Twins and Gleek for the animated TV series.

I don't mind that at all, and they remain pretty true to the characters in the with pseudo-exception of Green Lantern.

Each hero in Heroes has several character-specific attacks - Flash dashes between opponents, Superman fries guys with his heat vision, Wonder Woman uses her lasso and Batman tosses explosive batarangs - but all three Green Lanterns use exactly the same attacks: a powerful blast of green, a temporary box trap, a hard-hitting hammer, rotating blades and a protective green dome.

Sure, those fit in a general sense, but each GL has his own personality, using his ring's power to create solid manifestations that match his personality and the situation (and even varied vulnerabilities). Instead, the game really just offers three skins to the same character and that just won't float with long-time GL fans like myself. Granted, they might not be able to vary the look of each attack to match the scene, but they can at least change them for each character.

There is a little replayability in that you can't collect enough items to unlock every costume or character in the first pass through the game. Luckily you can play with your upgraded heroes, although newly unlocked companion characters will then seem laughably weak. You'll need to replay the game at a low or medium level , else newly unlocked characters - such as Aquaman, Hawkgirl, Green Arrow and the other two GLs - will be downed faster than an anvil wearing lead boots and you'll spend more time reviving them than playing.

DC does have a bit of refining and catch-up to do in terms of super hero games but they at least made a decent effort. The game is pretty fun for a little while, which ends up being about half of the game since it can be completed in about two days and you'll want to play a couple more to unlock all the characters and costumes.

The game begins with the following playable characters:
